TransportAPI and the Future Cities Catapult have just begun their second year working in collaboration with the Future Cities Catapult yielding benefits to the transport data community. Over the past year they have released huge swathes of public transport data for free for R&D users of the Future Cities Catapult data platform.
Our collaboration with TransportAPI allows cities to make evidence-based decisions as to how they plan and operate their transport systems
Dr Peter Reynolds, Executive Director, Future Cities Catapult
Powered by TransportAPI data the Future Cities platform makes public transport data across the UK free to the R&D community by implementing un-keyed access to the data. Licensed under Creative Commons Attribution (non commercial) and rate limited innovators are able to take the data from the Future Cities Platform to develop innovative products and services using the data.
According to Founder of TransportAPI Jonathan Raper the initiative allows innovators to accelerate their propositions with speedy proof of concept development.
“Engagement with our users on TransportAPI shows that many innovators need to prove value before taking the step of scaling up to the market. Our collaboration with the Future Cities Catapult allows this to happen directly playing into the growing markets in city data”.
Dr Peter Reynolds, Executive Director, Future Cities Catapult agrees:
“Cities have so much to gain from data and the insights it brings. The richness of the data released through our collaboration with TransportAPI allows cities to make evidence-based decisions as to how they plan and operate their transport systems. Our work with the R&D community and TransportAPI to develop products and services make cities better for citizens”.
